102: Brewer’s Edition with Joaquin Pena of Islla St. Brewing
For our second Brewer's Interview (our first during the pandemic), we (virtually) sat down with the creator of one of Texas's hottest, hardest-to-find beers. Joaquin Pena, the co-owner and brewer at Islla St. Brewing out of San Antonio, explains how their Rojo, a Berliner Weisse infused with Big Red syrup, began as a joke. No joke now. Everyone wants it and no one can get it. What does it feel like when the demand for your beer exceeds supply in the time of COVID? Joaquin discusses their Hispanic-culture-infused marketing, fanboys, converting non-craft drinkers and we wrap it up with a review of one of his favorite films, Tombstone, together. We get down to the bottom of all of it, discuss the origins, present and future of Islla St.
